Liposuction

Liposuction of the abdomen is designed to remove fat to produce a thinner, more attractive abdomen. It is commonly performed through small incisions in the pubic area. Fluid is injected into the fat to partially dissolve it, decrease bleeding, and provide anesthesia to the area. Fat is gently removed as a liquid with small tubes (cannulae).

Liposuction is also commonly performed at the low and mid back, thighs, lateral breasts, upper arms, neck and face.

PERTINENT INFORMATION:

* Anesthesia - general or IV sedation
* Setting - outpatient
* Recovery - return to normal activities in 7-10 days
* Scars - very small. Usually become almost invisible with time
