Pregnancy or significant weight loss can cause a loss of elasticity in the skin and underlying muscle of the abdomen resulting in loose skin, underlying fat, stretchmarks, and a “pooch” that cannot be exercised away. An abdominoplasty is designed to remove this excess skin and tighten the covering on the underlying abdominal muscles to produce a thinner, firmer, more attractive abdomen. The incision is individualized to each patient and may depend on your choice of swimsuit or undergarments. In general, it is a gentle horizontal curve just above the pubic area. The belly button is relocated due to the removal of the excess skin.
